Charleston Museum

Welcome to The Charleston Museum, America's First Museum, founded in 1773. Its mission is to preserve and interpret the cultural and natural history of Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

The Charleston Museum offers diverse programs designed to supplement a variety of curricula. Emphasis is on personal discovery and hands-on activities; all programs are geared to the level of the group scheduled. All programs meet with South Carolina Academic Standards. During the programs, students are given the opportunity to handle mounted animals and/or original artifacts.
